Ist Ist Release - Lost My Shadow

With their biggest year now underway, IST IST are pleased to unveil their brand new single: “Lost My Shadow”

2024 promises to be IST IST’s biggest year yet and following a string of sold out Independent Venue Week shows they launch their first new material of the year and their boldest statement of intent to date with ‘Lost My Shadow’ on 8th March.

The single is the first glimpse of new music from their as-yet unannounced fourth album. The record will be the follow-up to ‘Protagonists’, which reached number 41 in the full charts on release in March 2023 as well as securing them their third set of top ten positions in the vinyl, independent and physical charts as well as the number one download in the week of release.

Taking a typically bold step, the band set up their own rehearsal studios, KVR Studios, on the outskirts of Manchester to enable them to focus fully on the band and have enlisted the production skills of Joe Cross, whose impressive CV features the likes of Courteeners, Hurts and Louis Tomlinson.

Frontman Adam Houghton elaborates on the meaning behind the lyrics and the echoes the loftier ambitions that IST IST have set themselves:

“Your shadow is the last thing you own after you’ve lost everything else. Someone who has nothing left to lose has everything to gain and it makes them fearless. Maybe the position we’ve found ourselves in where we need to be fearless and take this band far and wide was on my mind.

I can’t wait for people to hear the new track and the album. I know it’s the best thing we’ve done. We’re levelling things up constantly, the songs are stronger and it feels like we’ve worked with Joe forever, the energy of the recording sessions comes through in the music.”

Bassist Andy Keating is in a punchier mood regarding the band’s past and their aspirations:

“Our track record speaks for itself. Our fans know that. We’ve had chart successes, we headlined the Ritz in Manchester last year and we’re packing out venues across Europe now. The new music is bolder than ever and we just want more people to hear and love it.

We’ve been politely knocking on the door for the best part of a decade now but if no-one feels like answering it, we’ll just kick it down.”

Established in late 2014, IST IST have forged a formidable reputation on word of mouth excitement at their uncompromisingly intense live shows, a fierce Mancunian DIYwork ethic and an ever-growing back catalogue of successful studio and live releases, all self-released through their own Kind Violence Records imprint.

Their upcoming headline European and UK tours in March and April, which will preview more new music as well as their now extensive catalogue, will see them play to over 5,000 people in nine countries. IST IST’s reach has already spread beyond the shores of the UK selling out prestigious venues in the Netherlands and Germany in 2023, bucking the trend of UK acts struggling in Europe post-Brexit.

With previous championing from BBC 6Music, Radio X, XS Manchester, KINK, The Times and more, brimming with confidence and their strongest body of work to date in their pocket, IST IST are set to light a bigger fire everywhere they go in 2024.
